Did you know Australia and New Zealand have among the highest rates of skin cancer in the world?

The face, nose, ears, and neck are common sites for skin cancers. Wearing a broad brimmed, legionnaire, or bucket style hat is a great way to avoid excess sun exposure on these sensitive body areas. Caps and visors do not provide as much protection.

Another important tip to keep in mind when choosing a hat is the fabric it is made from. Choose a hat made with dense or closely woven fabric. As a general rule - if you can see through the hat, UV radiation will also get through. For example, in the picture below you can see the sun shining through the hat.
